Dazzler Deluxe 4.0
Demonstration Version Notes

Introduction
Welcome

Thank you for choosing to look at this demonstration of
Dazzler 4.0. This version is fully functional, the only
limitation being that you can't save the presentations you
create.

There are two versions of Dazzler 4.0 available:

****DAZZLER DELUXE 4.0****
This is installed for evaluation.

Dazzler Deluxe is our award winning multimedia authoring
tool aimed at trainers and multimedia developers. Dazzler
Deluxe allows you to create powerful applications without
the need to learn a programming language. The icon based
interface enables you to quickly build interactive screens
comprising text, graphics, animation, audio and video. The
user can navigate through the course you create and can
answer questions using hotspots, push buttons, textual
input, timed pauses, check boxes, radio buttons, list boxes,
menus and drag and drop. Users can be scored on their
performance and the results can be analysed by the trainer.
Dazzler Deluxe is ideal for applications such as Training,
Point of Sale / Information Systems and Interactive
Databases, and can make use of OLE 2.0, DLLs, DDE, MCI and
ODBC (using the Database Toolkit).

****DAZZLER 4.0 ****
Dazzler uses the same award winning, easy to use icon based
interface as Dazzler Deluxe. Dazzler is designed and priced
for presenters and sales people who have become frustrated
with the limitations of their existing slide show
presentations. The main difference between Dazzler and
Dazzler Deluxe is that you can't store and process data, for
example to score students in a training course or to link to
product information stored in a database.


The full range of multimedia techniques can still be
combined to create stunning interactive presentations -
text, graphics, audio, video and animation can all be
integrated with hot spots, push buttons, mouse clicks and
pauses. On-screen layering and transitions can be applied to
any media object, allowing you to create your own animations
and effects within your presentation. Information from the
Internet or corporate Intranet can easily be added. The
presentations you create can be packaged for floppy disk,
CD-ROM or now, for the Internet as well, either as HTML Web
pages or using our new Java Dazzler player.

System Requirements
Dazzler 4.0 is a true 32 bit Windows application and as such
will only run under Windows 95, NT 3.51 or higher. This is
also true for the run-time (not included with this beta
release). Some of the new Dazzler features are really not
possible under Windows 3.1. For 16-bit creation and 16/32
bit delivery the Dazzler 3.1 development system should be
used.

If you intend to use the HTML and FTP actions (see Key New
Features below) then you will need to install Microsoft
Internet Explorer 3, since Dazzler links into some of the
functionality Microsoft provides with IE3. You can download
this for free from the Internet at
http://www.microsoft.com/ie . You will not need to remove
your existing browser.

Dazzler 4.0 can use Microsoft's new ActiveMovie technology,
as well as the traditional MCI drivers. Dazzler's Movie
Action can play back MPEG video without the need for an
additional card in your computer by using ActiveMovie. You
can download this from the Internet at
http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload Note: This can be also
be done as part of the Internet Explorer 3 installation. A
high resolution graphics card and monitor will be useful to
get the most out of the new dual window development
environment which lets you see the Presentation and Design
windows at the same time.

Key New Features
****************

**Fully 32-bit code**
Multi-threaded code takes full advantage of Windows 95 and
Windows NT.

**New interface**
dockable toolbars replace the Icon Window. New Dual Window
development mode.

**Rich Text Action**
Combine fonts and styles within one single text action. Also
supports reading RTF and Word documents directly into the
action.

**Hypertext Response**
Highlight a word or phrase in the Rich Action and Dazzler
can create a hypertext response for you. Move the text
around the screen and the hyper-response moves with it.

**HTML action**
Incorporate live web sites directly into your presentations
and training courses, either from an intranet or the
Internet in general. All you need to know is the address of
the site you want to link to.

**FTP action**
Read files over your intranet or the Internet. Once
downloaded, files can be used by the Dazzler course - e.g.
reading data from the file, using the file as a picture and
so on.

**HTML development mode and export**
switches off those objects not supported in plain HTML.
Takes your text, hypertext, buttons and pictures and saves
them as web pages.

**Java player**
Run your presentations over the Internet or cross platform
with the new Java run-time player applet. Simply embed the
applet in your web pages and tell it which Dazzler course to
run and your web pages will come alive with the Dazzler
presentation, with text, pictures, animations, sounds and
full Dazzler interactivity.

**Attach Actions directly to Responses**
Trigger some actions by passing the mouse over a hotspot or
by pressing a button without moving to  a new task.Drag
objects directly into the Presentation Window. Particularly
useful when using the new Dual Windows development mode -
see the Design and Presentation Windows at the same time.

**Lock objects**
So they can't be accidentally moved when developing screens.

**Undo!**
If you make a mistake in the Design or Presentation Windows,
click the undo button in the toolbar to  step back.

**Lock layers**
so they aren't affected by a Clear Window. Set-up permanent
backdrops. Clear by layer.

**Colour gradient fills in Graphics Shapes**
Specify the start and end colours and the type of gradient.
Ideal for quick screen backdrops.

**Style sheets**
Set up styles for almost any object, not just text. For
example, set up default button size and colours.

**Keyboard positioning of objects**
Nudge objects around the screen, as well as points within
objects.

**Angled text**
Use the Plain Text action to rotate a line of text.

**Active Movie support**
Microsoft's new video control gives access to wide range of
audio and video formats,including MPEG-1 playback without
hardware.

**Packager redesign**
Now an integral part of Dazzler in the form of a wizard,
which steps you through the distribution decision process.
Also now packages fonts with your presentation. Click and
browse for the icon you want to show on installation.

**Frame Response**
Now handles digital video file frames and sound files, so
you can trigger the response when a particular point in a
movie or sound file is reached.
